Client Brief

Victor Harbor City Council required a replacement solution for a number of non-functioning previously installed solar bollards. Following a competitive tender process, the Council engaged Solar Lighting Designs to supply 35 Halo Solar Bollard  Vandal Resistant V4 units as the replacement solution.

Along with the bollards, SLD supplied 35 high-security installation kits incorporating a custom-manufactured foundation cage, providing a secure mounting solution for the new units.

Assessment

The Halo Vandal Resistant Solar Bollard V4 provided a purpose-built commercial solar bollard lighting option with a strong focus on resistance to vandalism and tampering.

The upgraded V4 model features a high-impact lamp head, high-security tamper-proof fixings and IK10 impact resistance and IP66 dust and water ingress protection.

A key feature of the V4 Halo is its supplied programming remote. Rather than operating with only one fixed lighting profile, the remote gives greater control over the bollard’s illumination, including constant-output, motion-activated and timed operating settings.

All programs automatically switch the bollard on at dusk and off at dawn. Available settings include:

  • Default 25%–100% motion-activated operation until dawn;
  • 50% constant output or 25% constant output for up to 17 hours or until dawn;
  • 0%–100% motion-activated operation;
  • A staged program combining constant and motion-activated output at different levels throughout the night; and
  • Dedicated 4-hour and 12-hour operating periods.

Outcome

The project replaced 35 non-functioning competitor bollards with a new solar lighting solution for Victor Harbor City Council, restoring illumination across the nominated areas without relying on the failed existing units.

The use of custom-manufactured foundation cages and high-security installation kits also provided a more secure installation approach for the replacement bollards. With the project completed following a competitive tender process, the Council now has a renewed solar lighting system with greater control over how the lighting operates throughout the night.

The Halo V4 incorporates high-security tamper-proof fixings, a high-impact polycarbonate lamp head, IK10 impact resistance and an IP66 rating, making it specifically designed for commercial applications where vandalism or theft may be a concern.

Yes. The supplied remote control allows different constant-output, motion-activated and timed programs to be selected. Every program is configured to automatically turn on at dusk and off at dawn.

Solar Lighting Designs supplied 35 Halo Vandal Resistant Solar Bollard V4 units, together with the high-security installation solution specified for the project.
