Blog Information

Cambridge Town Hall required an effective way to illuminate both the Town Hall building and its ANZAC cenotaph without the cost and disruption associated with installing new 240V electrical infrastructure.

Client Brief

Cambridge Town Hall in New Zealand required lighting for both the Town Hall and the ANZAC cenotaph.

The solution needed to provide effective aesthetic illumination while keeping installation straightforward and cost-effective. A key consideration was avoiding the excavation and electrical infrastructure which would have been required to install a conventional 240V lighting system.

Assessment

An associated solar lighting supplier and installer selected two Venus RGB Solar Floodlights as a suitable solution for the site.

The Venus is a commercial-grade solar flood light using RGB LEDs to illumate areas. Its remote control allows the fitting to be programmed for LED output and RGB colour selection. Each unit incorporates an 18.5W LED output, up to 3,280 lumens, a 50W solar panel and LiFePO4 battery storage.

For Cambridge Town Hall, the two fittings were pole mounted to provide illumination across both the building and ANZAC cenotaph.

The solar-powered approach was selected because it offered several practical advantages for the project:

  • No requirement to excavate for mains electrical cabling
  • Installation completed within one day
  • RGB capability for illumination in a range of colours
  • Independent solar-powered operation

The Venus system also incorporates adjustable solar panel and light brackets, allowing the fittings to be positioned to suit the installation requirements.

Outcome

The installation of two commercial solar flood lights provided Cambridge Town Hall with a practical way to illuminate both the Town Hall and ANZAC cenotaph.

Completed within one day, the installation required no excavation for underground mains cabling and provided the site with flexible RGB illumination across a range of colours.

The project demonstrates how solar-powered flood lights can provide an effective lighting solution for civic buildings, monuments and commemorative spaces.

Solar flood lights provided a more cost-effective and straightforward installation option than establishing new 240V electrical infrastructure. The solar solution also removed the need to excavate for underground electrical cabling.

Yes. The Venus Solar Floodlight uses RGB LEDs and can display a range of colours, as well as provide white-light illumination. Colour selection and operating settings can be controlled using the supplied remote.

The two pole-mounted solar flood lights were installed within one day.
